Christian Rock Music "The Controversial Issue"
Author: Kyle Watters

Written on Jan. 15th, 2005

Christian rock Music is definitely a controversial issue. I want to point out a few of my personal opinions to you:

Christian Music weather it is worship or praise music or Christian country or Rap or Rock as far as I am concerned are all types of Christian music. Christian Rock is just Christian music with a faster beat than other types of music. I personally believe that just because it has a faster beat doesn’t mean it is not Gods music .Also it doesn’t mean that it is not in good faith or that it is music that has a bad or evil influence.

Some people have said well Rock music tends to make my kids dance in a more sexual manner more so than any other type of music. More than likely anyone is dancing sexual than it is because of other influences not because of Christian rock music. Maybe they seen a rock band on Much music and saw something sexual in a video. Not all rock bands use sexual influence though. Yes Music changes how you may bounce to the music and it may make you look like you are more sexual but than again music with a slow beat can do the same thing.

It’s what you do with the music and the lyrics involved that count as far as I am concerned. There are many soul singers and gospel singers, even choirs that have songs with a fast blues or rocky beat .This does not make it evil or UN god like.

God wants us to dance.

Also sexual behavior is a natural thing and isn’t ungodly either. God has made us a sexual creature so we can enjoy the pleasure of a loved one. Yes sex is wrong if it is before marriage,  but is for married people to share between each other and is Gods will, both for pleasure and for procreation.

As far as alcohol, I believe that taken in large quantities is not good and is self abuse and is not something god wants. However Churches all around the world use Wine to symbolize Gods blood. Alcohol in moderation is not a bad or UN godlike thing.

As far as rock music it also depends on what you call rock music. There is heavy metal then there is rock and soft rock. Everyone's take on what is rock music is will very and be different.

My last band is classed as a Christian Rock Band and all the lyrics are about God, and his love, Jesus and other lyrics you would find in any praise or worship song. Our band is the Worship team from my church that also has made its own CD using Christian Rock music and is enjoyed by our church and many other churches. The presence of God is felt and is in all our music even in our rock music. The beat doesn’t cause anyone in the church to act or dance in any different way than if we were playing praise or worship songs. Actually even know they are Rock songs they are Christian and worship/praise songs.

As I said this is just my opinion.

Thanks again
